Political Academy 2024

The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) organized and conducted the 14th annual Political Academy from May 26 to May 31, 2024.

Throughout this intensive week, participants engaged deeply with various topics profoundly impacting diverse populations.

Benefiting from a diverse array of experts, participants gained invaluable insights. Armend Bekaj, Professor at Uppsala University, delved into political ideologies and the state of democracy, while Edison Jakurti explored fundamental economic theories. Enis Sulstarova provided a comprehensive overview of the history of the left and right in the Balkans, and Visar Imeri facilitated a discussion on social democracy in Kosovo. Additionally, Anton Vukpalaj shared his expertise on transitional justice in Kosovo, complemented by a visit to the Center for Documentation of Kosovo, where participants engaged in discussions with a representative from the Humanitarian Law Center in Kosovo.

Jeta Loshaj and Ramadan Ilazi shed light on the topic of Russian influence in the Western Balkans, while Ardiana Gashi examined the complexities of migration and its implications for Kosovo. Rinor Hoxha led a compelling exercise on assessing the impact of legal provisions, providing participants with valuable insights into the extensive effects of legislation. During a group hike in Prevallë, participants discussed the concept of a just climate transition with Xhevdet Gegollaj. The week concluded with a stimulating discussion led by Rozafa Jahaj on gender justice in Kosovo.

Drawing from this rich pool of knowledge, participants will now select specific topics and develop policy briefs. These will be presented in September 2024, marking the culmination of this year's Political Academy.
