In cooperation with the Kosovo Local Government Institute (KLGI) the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) has finished a (4 part) academy titled “Youth Academy for Local Government” targeted at young activists within political parties from 12 different Municipalities (Mitrovicë, Podujevë, Drenas, Lipjan, Kamenicë, Obiliq, Prizren, Pejë, Ferizaj, Gjakovë, Rahovec, and Fushë Kosovë) with the aim of advancing local democracy as well as preparing those who themselves run for Municipal Assemblies. This academy was conducted with two groups and different participants from above municipalities from May - August 2021.

The certified participants have gained a general overview of municipal structures regarding the functionality of the local government, public communication, public speaking as well as political analysis through lectures and divided group work. They were able to identify, analyze and address local problems and potential solutions within different types of fields, such as social and environmental issues, budgeting, and economic development.

Combined with the discussion of strategic documents, the provided overview concerning municipal processes, legislation and principles, the potential young leaders are now fully equipped with a fundamental basis concerning local government structures.
